One year when I went to P.A.S.I.C. (Percussive Arts Society, International Conference), I saw a video of a studio and workshop drummer of some recognition (I can't remember his name) talking about the nature of drummers. He made a distinction from other musicians (and YES, drummers ARE musicians... or... can be) by talking about how drummers love to share what they know with one another.
If someone plays a killer phrase (yes, I said killer), the other drummers in the room want to know how it was done.
"How does the phrase fit in time?"
"What happens if I move the phrase over a sixteenth note... or a single note over here?"
From simple grooves, to complex chops, to composition styles and tools, drummers want to know. On these pages I try to honor that spirit by providing links, instructional materials, reference material, and whatever else I find or write to give back to our global community of drummers.
