Cooperman Fife & Drum Company
Cooperman makes the best frame drums I've seen or played. They offer standard 14', 16' & 18' Tars and Bendirs, 18' & 22' Bodhrans, and an assortment of zilled frame drums. All are tunable and can be customized. They offer goat skin and 3 different fiber skins. These drums are second to none.

Cooperman Bendir
Last winter I aquired a 16' tunable, cherry wood Bendir with a Renaissance fiber skin. Beautiful. The bindir has four silk thread snairs that run along the back of the skin that "buzz" when you strike the drum. These snairs are able to be loosened so the drum can be played as a regular Tar, as well.

The Renaissance skin is very warm sounding. Goat skins sound a little warmer and and a little brighter, but what you give up in sound, which is not that much in my opinion, you get back in reliability of pitch. An easy trade-off for one who lives in moist climates.

The snairs, while they create a wonderful texture, also dampen the volume of the higher tones of the drum. This usually means that dense note combinations with the higher tones will not be as distinguishable.

All in all, this is a fantastic drum that has so many options.
