For the longest time the only hand percussion soundfonts you could find online were sounds of the more popular percussion instruments;
Congas, bongos, timbales. Sometimes, if you were lucky, you could find tabla and some other indian percussion.
Eventually, a few jembe soundfonts were found, but the quality of the sounds were not great. Over the past 8 years my friends and I have
been recording our drums and turning them into soundfonts for our own compositions. As we would get better microphones or
learn better recording techniques we would re-sample the instrument.
Today, we have an awesome collection of world percussion
soundfonts including conga's, jembe's, dun dun's, riqq, darabouka's, framedrums, and more. All available for you to download.
We ask only two things, if you make modifications please let us know so we can use and post them and if you know
of any others that we can post, let us know. ENJOY!
Jembe 1 - "The Dragon"
This is a soundfont of a jembe from an american jembe maker. There are 2 groups of samples, one of the jembe and one of
the jembe with shields or ksink ksink, the metal "shakers" that add a beautiful texture to the sound of the drum.
Jembe 2 - "Jupiter"
This is another of the jembe's from Glenn McCullough, an American jembe maker who really knows what he is doing.
This is an older set of samples and the drum is not as tight as it should be, but still a great sound.
Dunun 1 - "The Red Notes"
Samples of a 19 inch and 15 inch set of Brazillian Cherry, stave Dunun's. Watch out for bowel movements.
Darabouka - 4 Lug (small bouka)
Cast aluminum baby 'bouka with plastic head. So Cute!
Darabouka - 6 Lug (large bouka)
Cast aluminum Mid-sized 'bouka. There are 4 'bouka sizes taht I have come across. This is the 3rd largest. I am
going to be getting a sample of the largest soon. If anyone knows of a sample of the 2nd largest size, let us know.
Frame Drum Combo
These have been the most difficult to find anywhere. This SF set has 3 different frame drum samples. The frame drum
is an incredible instrument to compose with.
Riqq 1
Ahhhh, the riqq. I have never come across a riqq SF. This set of samples are several years old and need to be re-recorded.
I hope this will happen in the next few months. But in the interim, this will have to do.
Percussion Combo
This is a VERY old set of samples. It includes ALL the percussion. While the recording quality of the samples is not
what it could be it is still better than a lot of what is out there.
Gong
It's a gong. What more can I say?
